Counsel & Care

DHA has worked with charity Counsel & Care on a pro bono basis, to help them place the health and social care of older people firmly on the news agenda by demonstrating the current shortfall in care.

DHA used results from a survey of Counsel & Care’s helpline and similar research to produce a report – the Charter for Change. The report was drafted in the context of the Government's strategic reform of the social care sector.

Presenting the evidence in an effective way, through the eyes of older people, their carers and families, the report called on Government to adopt a radical new blueprint to meet the care funding gap. Key pieces of national media coverage were achieved – including a piece on BBC Radio 4’s You & Yours programme as part of their month-long focus on care – sparking a debate within the sector.
