Charity Commission
The Charity Commission is the regulator for all charities in England and Wales. They are responsible for ensuring charities comply with financial reporting and provide support and advice to charities of all sizes.
The Commission first approached DHA to undertake a survey of key stakeholders. The aim was to assess how they could build a strategy that would enable them to provide an effective and responsive service.
DHA developed a bespoke consultation – which involved conducting in-depth face to face and phone interviews with almost 100 chief executives, finance staff and managers. We spoke to charities of all sizes, membership groups and from all subject areas, to gain a solid understanding of what the strategy should encompass and how the Commission could best support its clients.
We presented the Commission with a clear set of aims, including areas for improvement and suggestions for a clear way of working, based on the results. Two years later, we revisited this work to garner opinion from most of the people who took part in the first piece of work - together with some new ones, - to ask for their views on how well the Commission was progressing its strategy. The results from this research and DHA’s recommendations still form the bedrock of the Commission’s ‘Vision, Mission and Values’.
