Rotherham Ready (Ready Unlimited)

Strategy Development

DHA has been helping a Rotherham-based initiative to raise its regional and national profile as a pioneer in showing UK schools how they can embed enterprise education for children as young as three-years-old.

Rotherham Ready was set up by Rotherham Council in 2005 to help tackle the town’s poor employment opportunities by using a new approach to education which encouraged children to be more enterprising.

The model proved so successful, winning plaudits from teachers, national awards and international attention, that the team decided to encourage other schools round the country to adopt the same approach.

DHA has played a key role in supporting the expansion of the model, using local media to raise the profile of schools joining the programme in Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and Norfolk and placing feature articles in specialist education press.

We are currently in the process of developing an advocacy campaign to encourage policy makers to support the approach developed by Rotherham Ready – now a social enterprise called Are you Ready? -and recognise its potential as the basis for the enterprise culture that Biz has called for.
